Other Work

Here is a sampling of other recent projects I've undertaken, some for work, others for learning and experience.

AR + Voice UI

This project was a fascinating new application of AR and voice UI. I led the design and research strategy for several products in this initiative. Stay tuned for more updates!

STUDENT WORKSHOP

I had the great privilege to lead the design and delivery of a Learning Lab workshop for Inneract Project. We took over 20 middle and high-school students from underserved communities through a 2-day design exercise exploring AR applications in music.

The collaboration—the first of its kind for Dolby—was an overwhelming success for all involved, and planning has already started for the next one.

lean design

Project C. For this bold new consumer initiative, I lead the team to use lean principles to rapidly validate hypotheses and minimise risks.

I developed several prototypes and led many rounds of user research, giving us enough validation to secure executive support for continued development.

emmy award

Dolby DP600 I was the UI design lead, software lead and, later, overall engineering lead for the Emmy award-winning Dolby DP600.

This project showed me what happens when visionary product management, innovative engineering, and robust user-centred design come together.

design sprints

Dolby On. I’m often asked to facilitate design workshops for other teams, such as this 5-day design sprint focused on the onboarding process for the ground-breaking music app Dolby On.

Using a variety of exercises I led team from initial problem investigation through ideation, convergence, prototyping and usability testing.

PHYSICAL INTERFACES

This hackathon project allowed me to explore human-computer interaction through physical interfaces as I designed the control surface for a compelling interactive technology demo. I also did graphic design, print production and 3D modelling. The team won three awards, including Best of Quest.

hardware prototypes

This hackathon project, which gives live musicians to move audio in 3D space whilst performing, allowed me to prototype hardware using Arduino, Raspberry Pi and inertial sensors. I also had to sing Van Halen's Jump about 80 times, much to the annoyance of our neighbouring teams! It was worth it, though: we won overall Best of Quest from both peer and executive judges, and filed for a patent.
